performances from the heart and chats that hit home

Sessions At The Root

An intimate musical broadcast series exploring deep-dive interviews and soulful performances that define our sound. Centered on authenticity and roots-driven creativity, we invite you into a space where every note tells a story and every voice finds its home.

Meet the Host

Hosted by musician Todd Mertens, Sessions At The Root is guided by someone who truly understands the artist’s journey.

Todd brings a conversational, curious, and approachable style to every episode — with just enough humor to keep things light and genuine. As a musician himself, he deeply appreciates the power music has in shaping lives.

For Todd, music isn’t just sound — it’s memory, therapy, identity, and connection. It’s the soundtrack to where we’ve been and often the compass guiding where we’re going. That perspective shapes every conversation on the show.

The Heartbeat Behind Our Sessions

A Community Stage for “Performances From The Heart and Chats That Hit Home”

At its core, Sessions At The Root is about connection.

Recorded live in front of a studio audience at The Rooted Cup, this monthly video podcast blends intimate interviews with live performances from talented artists  — along with conversations featuring prominent voices from the community.

Launched in January 2025, the show is recorded once per month on a Sunday morning at 11:00 AM — a perfect time to slow down, grab a drink, and settle in for meaningful stories and music that moves you.

This isn’t just another music podcast. Sessions At The Root digs deeper.

We don’t just showcase talent — we explore it. We talk about roots. Influences. The winding roads. The setbacks. The breakthroughs. The moments that shaped the artist long before the spotlight ever did.

The goal is simple:

  • Help the audience discover the incredible musical talent in our region

  • Give musicians a platform to share their full story

  • Make artists relatable and human

  • Leave every attendee and viewer learning something new

It’s about understanding how someone got where they are — and appreciating the journey as much as the performance.

Our mission is simple: to preserve the soul of the craft. Through curated interviews and authentic acoustic performances, we bridge the gap between creator and listener, fostering a space where shared knowledge and deep-rooted creativity are celebrated.
